Judge and Ohtani:
Rewriting the Record Books in 2024

As the 2024 MLB season heads into its final stretch, Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees and Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers are putting together two of the most remarkable seasons in recent memory. Both players are not just dominating their respective leagues but are also on pace to set or challenge several long-standing MLB records.

Aaron Judge is having another historic year, potentially surpassing his incredible 2022 season, where he set the American League record with 62 home runs. As of late August, Judge leads the league with 51 home runs and 122 RBIs, while boasting a .333 batting average. He’s on pace to hit 63 home runs, which would break his own AL record. Additionally, Judge is in contention for the Triple Crown, a feat last accomplished in the AL by Miguel Cabrera in 2012. If Judge continues this torrid pace, he will join the elite company of players who have had three or more 50-homer seasons, a list that includes legends like Babe Ruth and Alex Rodriguez.

Shohei Ohtani, in his first season with the Dodgers, has been nothing short of spectacular. Even though he’s not pitching this season, his impact at the plate has been historic. Ohtani recently became the sixth player in MLB history to join the 40/40 club, hitting 42 home runs and stealing 42 bases as of late August. He’s on pace for a possible 50/50 season, which would be unprecedented in baseball history. Ohtani’s performance has solidified his status as the frontrunner for the National League MVP, making him a favorite to win the award in both leagues during his career.
